An Antique English Pearlware Mocha Ewer and Basin dipped in blue slip the Ewer with a band of slip-inlaid checkered rouletting and the Basin with the Rim having the edge decorated with slip-inlaid checkered rouletting -- the slip having been cut into with a lathe -- c1790-1800

Dimensions:  Ewer  9 1/2" H x 7" W  and Basin 3" H x 12" W

Condition: Restoration to minor hairline on basin

Literature:  "...An American Ship tore open its hold in 1786 off Les Isles du Glenan near the mouth of the French river leading to the potting center of Quimper.  In the early 1990s a French underwater archeological team uncovered some of the deposit, including olive oil and British pottery.  One backstamp was found, that of Heath.  Among the sherds were slip-marbled wares and a quanitity of teawares with solid blue slip fields below or in association with black slip-filled checkerboard rouletted bands...
